Are you attracting potential clients or recruiters on Linkedin?

Is your Linkedin profile written to attract potential clients or headhunters?

I recently offered a workshop to a sales team from a company aiming to strengthen their strategy on Linkedin. When we got to the About section, I was surprised to see that many were written as if they were looking for a job instead of business leads.

A common mistake is to copy and paste the professional summary of our resume just to comply while saving time and effort.

Although our resume information can serve as a basis, we must keep in mind that our goal is to attract sales prospects.

If the profile is aimed at attracting customers, the wording of the About section may look more like an elevator pitch than the summary of a resume.

We must also make sure that the first two text lines are attractive enough for people to want to read the rest. These first two lines of text will be the only thing visible initially.

Recommendations

Describe how you can solve your clients’ problems the same way they talk about it. The objective is to capture their attention, awaken their interest, and elicit their desire to start a dialogue or a closer interaction.

Here are some general guidelines to create an attractive and effective About section:

Start with a Bang!

Begin your copy with a question or a disruptive thought that arouses the reader’s curiosity, for example:

Is your business ready for…

Did you know that….

You no longer need x for….

Be creative. There are thousands of ways to write an eye-catching copy.

Add Storytelling

Include a bit of storytelling about how you have supported other clients. For example: “Over the past # years we have helped ….achieve…” Be specific. Include what you are most passionate about working with customers.

Be Human on Linkedin

Humanize the information you share since Linkedin is a social network. You can write in the first or even second person and speak directly to your ideal customer.

Mention what you offer

Be sure to include a brief list of the top products or services you offer. Above all, describe the benefits they will receive.

Tell them what you’d like them to do next

4. Include a Call-to-Action (CTA). Have an email, a phone number, or a link to a website where they can get more information, contact you, and take the next step.

Use Keywords

5. Be strategic in using phrases or keywords that your ideal customers would use to search for that product or service that you offer on the Internet.
